A Riot of Color

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's the town's cat lady!
It's Louise's interpretation of casual Friday!
Leopard cloche: vintage
Pashmina: Old Navy
Dress: Tucker for Target
Camel coat & belt: thrifted
Tights: c/o We Love Colors
Boots: Frye via Craigslist
TGIF! Can I get an Amen?

Let's talk about this array of frippery. I know that today's Casual Friday ensemble could easily be worn by a fabulous 80-year-old woman. In fact, I am keeping this outfit until then so I can rock it for my grandkids. The chunky belt and boots make it more contemporary (with the colored tights pushing it into eccentric territory), but even so! Old people are awesome. I intend to continue to dress as such.

The coat was a fantastic Goodwill find from late summer. I went into the store searching for a camel hair coat, and I left the store with a camel hair coat. Oh yes, I paid for it. A whole $12! In the pockets I found two tubes of bright pink lipstick and a guide dog for the blind registration card. It is about 4 sizes too large and the softest thing I own besides my blanket scarf. It's like a Snuggie, but not.

Oh, and guess what? Darin is cutting my hair tonight. I would rather spend haircut money on shoes. I'm not brave, just frugal and lazy. It's just a trim, really; I do not want my hair layered anymore! My hair stylist always wants to frame my face with layers because of my punkin cheeks. I say, long live round faces!

  1. i love your round cheeks. <3
oh how i wish you lived close to me..i believe we would be the best of friends/shopping buddies.

i am LOOOOVING the flower dress with the leopard hat. those two go so well together. loooove it.

good luck with your haircut. i will NEVER trust robert with a pair of scissors and my hair..he does do my sewing though. :)

    have a good weekend love.

  2. i love a good 80 year old woman look! no judgement here! although, i do think the colors take it away from the old ladies--it would have to be pastel to be really Golden Girls!

  3. Ooh you look the "riot of color" I saw that Tucker dress at Target a while back ...I love how you added a burst of blue. Adorable.

  4. I love the tone of your post. "What is this frippery?" Priceless!

On more serious matters, while I don't have that hat's twin, I have its second cousin. Come up to Canadia and we'll be rockin' old ladies together!

  5. I love this. You are fabulous really. xx

  6. Hey, I love the camel coat! And two tubes of bright pink lipstick and a guide dog for the blind registration card--score! Seriously, I love the coat. Call me a sucker for soft things, especially in that color!

  7. Okay so you look like a badass '60s spy. LOVE IT.

  8. that hat is kind of sort of really amazing <3

  9. This is such a good look, I actually really love it! and im so glad that you found this steal of a coat..with two lipsticks in the pockets? Obviously it was meant to be..that just shows how classy the lady who used to wear it was :) Hope you have a great weekend! x

  10. Such pretty colors!! You are fabulous...The hat looks so good on you! :):)

  11. Hi! I just found your blog and I must say it is delightful!

That dress is one of the prettiest from the Tucker for Target line. I love how you paired it with the blue tights :)

  12. Haha...Old people are awesome! You always make me laugh. And yes, long live round faces - from one round cheeked girl to another - I think it makes us look younger (and we'll appreciate it so much 50 years from now). This may be one of my favorite outfits of yours. Gorgeous floral prints, gorgeous colors, gorgeous boots, and mad awesome hat:)

  13. I love all the colors, they are fantastic! And man, I went years without a real haircut, it should work out fine. I had straight across bangs for as long as I could remember, so while some get squeamish about trimming their own fringe, I had come to master it. Alas, I now HAVE to get haircuts every couple months or else risk a mullet like do. Though things are looking up, I recently befriended a guy who is a hair stylist! Exchange of haircut for fresh baked bread? Might just happen.

  14. In response to your comment: Yes, the last season of Gilmore girls was sort of dreadful. I kept watching out of loyalty, curiosity, hope, and a the burning question of "What would Amy Sherman have done?"

  15. Love live round faces! Love it!
I was just saying to someone that I will always buy my belts from Goodwill/thrift stores from now on. They are so cheap and so much nicer than what I see elsewhere. You just helped prove my point.
